Day Trip: North Berwick

20 Jun

North Berwick is a lovely little sea-side town only 30 mins from Edinburgh by train.  If you have a spare afternoon on a sunny day it is well worth a visit.  Paddle in the sea (if you’re brave!), wander along the beach and soak in the rays.  Just make sure you pack a good coat, as no matter how sunny it is, the wind here is ferocious and I’d hate for anyone to get cold.

Lovely photos! They catch the atmosphere of the place and make me want to visit.

Yes, lovely photos! I live near N Berwick, and there are lots of great little villages in the area worth a visit if you have a car or are an intrepid cyclist (you can also take your bike on the train to N Berwick). There is a fabulous tea room at the Smeaton Plant Nursery just outside East Linton – it really is the best one I have found in East Lothian so far:

It’s very peaceful and old fashioned, and the cakes are wonderful. The nursery is very much NOT a garden centre, and you can wander around the plants and feel a million miles away from Edinburgh. Tea room closes at 4pm, so go early – they do lunches as well.

East Linton is also a very nice village, good for a walk around before or after your coffee.
